Now for today’s blog ...
Can your brain become inflamed? Can you have a sore or swollen brain—like a sore throat—that causes everything from brain fog to dementia to depression to autism?
You brain can become inflamed just as your body does. And in the 21st century, our bodies and brains are on fire.
Today, the fires of inflammation are raging all over the body. That’s why we are seeing an epidemic of diseases including autoimmunity (24 million people), allergy (50 million), and asthma (30 million), as well as cardiovascular disease (60 million), cancer (10 million), and diabetes (14 million). These, it has been recently discovered, are primarily inflammatory conditions.
Now, new research proves that almost all brain problems are connected to or caused by inflammation as well.
In this blog I will review just a few examples of the research that points to the link between inflammation and our epidemic of broken brains and tell you what you can do to reduce the sources of inflammation in your life.
The Simple Way to Defeat Depression, Overcome Anxiety and Sharpen Your MindPosted on December 11th, 2008 |

Are you one of the 100 million, or one-in-three, Americans struggling through life with a “broken brain?”
It doesn’t have to be that way. Today, I’m going to share with you the key to good mental and emotional health -- to an “UltraMind” … one that’s calm, confident, and happy.
But first, ask yourself these questions:
• Do you feel depressed, hopeless, disconnected, and disengaged from your life?
• Do you see your relationships breaking down because you are mentally and emotionally absent or numb?
• Do you forget to meet friends or go to appointments, and then can’t figure out how in the world you forgot?
If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, you are not alone.
Right now in America, there is a rising tide of “broken brains.” And conventional medicine cannot cure it.

Why Lead Poisoning May be Causing Your Health ProblemsPosted on May 7th, 2008 |
Categories: Autism
We are too heavy -- and I don’t mean overweight.
You see, we’re heavy with metals, not fat. Nearly 40 percent of us have toxic levels of lead in our bodies. And we don’t even know it.
That doesn’t mean we don’t have symptoms.
You may have headaches, insomnia, irritability, a low sex drive, or tremors.
You may have mood problems, nausea, depression, memory difficulties, trouble concentrating, poor coordination, or even constipation.
Yet most of us attribute these symptoms to other problems. We don’t recognize that they may be caused by lead poisoning.
I just returned from a medical conference on heavy metals and health. Although I have been treating toxicity from heavy metals for more than a decade (including in myself) I was surprised to hear about new research that has been completely ignored by the media.
A study published in 2006 in the conservative medical journal Circulation, for example, should have been on the front page of the New York Times.
Let me tell you about why the study was so important -- and why you probably won’t hear about it from your doctor.

How to fix our broken health care system...Posted on November 7th, 2007 |

Something extraordinary happened while I was flying back from Seattle to Philadelphia recently.
I was there teaching other doctors about Functional Medicine at The Institute for Functional Medicine (www.functionalmedicine.org). The course was called Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice -- a course that every doctor in America should attend.
On that flight, I read a powerful book with the potential to alter the course of western medicine.
It was Jenny McCarthy's new book about her autistic son called "Louder than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism."
Her insightful words spoke to the biggest problem in medicine today. It is a secret that needs to be told, and Jenny McCarthy is determined to do just that.
What's the secret?
==> There IS a "biomedical" treatment for autism.
But what she DIDN'T say was that this biomedical treatment is actually the scientific principles and methods that form the basis of Functional Medicine and the 7 Keys to UltraWellness.

Why Current Thinking about Autism is Completely WrongPosted on September 27th, 2007 |
Categories: Gluten-free | Casein-free | Autism | Asperger's Syndrome | ADHD | ADD
"Autism is caused by poor mothering." That was the belief of the medical community until the late 1960s.
"Autism is a genetic brain disorder." That is what most people -- and most of the medical community -- believe today.
I'm here to tell you that neither one of these statements is true.
Think about it. Rates of autism have skyrocketed over the years, from an estimated 1 child in 3,000 to just 1 in 150 kids today. Sure, wider criteria for diagnosis and better detection might explain some of it -- but not an increase of this magnitude.
The real reason we are seeing increasing rates of autism is simply this: Autism is a systemic body disorder that affects the brain. A toxic environment triggers certain genes in people susceptible to this condition. And research supports this position.
Today I will review some of this research and explain how imbalances in the 7 keys systems of the body may be the real cause—and thus the real cure—of autism.
