For several months now, I have been buying raw milk from a local dairy and raw goat milk chees and raw cow milk cheese from my local health food store. What do you think about this?

Hi Irvivori - I work in food safety and the transmission of disease between animals and humans, and I personally think that raw dairy products can be very dangerous. There are many bacterial pathogens in raw milk, many of which can cause illness. True, some families have consumed raw milk for years - I suspect that they have gradually built immunity to the common pathogens in milk, and they probably experienced gastrointestinal illnesses that aren't easily recalled/attributed to those products. It's just my two-cents, but personally, I'd stay clear.

Interesting! What agency are you with? I appreciate your response.
Are you familiar with the loss of friendly bacteria and enzymes with pasteurization? Does that factor in? I buy from a local dairy that gives us the milk within a day or two of production, and it will last two weeks or more. Neither I nor my children (my husband won't touch it) has had any sort of gastro-intesinal problem whatsoever since we started consuming it, and I don't even like the taste of grocery store milk anymore, even organic.
My daughter's pediatrician recently told her to drink skim milk, but that doesn't seem right either, anymore.

A few years ago I did some research on eating raw foods and even tried it for awhile, but because of a sensative tummy I could not maintain that type of eating, but I did enjoy the taste of the raw dairy.
However for this plan, you will need to forgo for at least a week or more depending on which plan you choose. Then as long as you are consuming products from a reputable supplier who produces organic products, I wouldn't think there should be a problem as long as you reintroduce according to the plan.

It's hard to get raw milk in this country! It's easier to get raw cheese, thankfully.
Thank you for your reminder about eliminating dairy the first week of the diet. I'm struggling just to give up tuna.

This is general medical information only. For analysis, diagnosis and prescriptions, consult your doctor or other medical professional.
There are some raw dairy enthusiasts but we do not promote the consumption of raw dairy products because as noted, there is the possibility of bacterial and other pathogenic organism transmission via these products. Some individuals feel that the risk is worth taking, however, we don't.
