feeling discouraged

This morning is the start of day four, and I woke up feeling exteremely discouraged. I've been following everything by the book and last night when I was suffering from bloating and constipation, I took a couple of senna tablets before bed with lots of water. I was woken up at 2 am with the sensation that I was being stabbed from the inside. As I spent the next hour on the toilet, all I kept thinking was "This does not feel healthy".

Maybe a little background about my situation will allow anyone to make some suggestions. I was diagnosed with IBS over 10 years ago, and have never found a satisfying means to deal with it. Recently, my family doctor suggested that I cut out gluten, which I had been doing for about a month before starting the USD. I was feeling generally better, and regular too. My main reason for going on this diet was to address the bouts of bloating and constipation I'd been suffering for all these years. Now that I'm on the diet, it's worse than it's been in years. Could I still be in the "detox phase"? Can someone reassure me that this is temporary? Any help/comments appreciated.

thank you,

Marnie

Please do not get discouraged. It can take time for your body to adjust to the increased fiber and changes.  You may want to try konjac fiber for help with the bloating and constipation.

I'm so sorry to hear that!

I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm no expert, but everything I have read about detoxing says that you will experience uncomfortable symptoms at the start. Something to do with releasing and purging toxins, I think? My mom has a gluten intolerance, and any little change in her diet, for better or worse, leaves her feeling awful but goes away with time.

I hope that helps a little. But  if you're really worried, could you call your doctor and check if this is normal? It's a hassle to do, but he/she will probably be able to give you more reassurance than anyone else, and at least you'll know if something you're doing is antagonizing your symptoms.

Maybe this is stupid, but have you tried ginger tea? Is that OK with IBS? It always helps me.

I wish you the very best. Feel better!
