Thanks for reply. I used rice protein as suggested in downloaded manual and book.
I borrowed UltraMeal 360 from a friend this morning and I was able to bear the hearburn without aid of Nexium or Prilosec. Do you think I should use one of those?
I know how frustrating heartburn can be, since I have had a problem that has gotten progressively worse for the last 24 years thanks to my first pregnancy. I find that nuts can trigger heartburn and bananas can also cause problems. Since they are both recommended to improve flavor for the shakes they could be the problem. I also found it better to use less flax for the first few days until I was use to the extra fiber. Another thing I noticed was the effects of my Omega supplement, I don't use the oil, it seems to agrivate my stomach too.
I would suggest making just the rice protein with nothing added first and see how that feels, some people are allergic to rice, then add the other ingredients one at a time to see which is bothering you, or you could try one of the other shake versions.
In regards to the medication, the problem with Nexium and Prilosec is you have to take them daily for them to work properly. You might try Zantac 150, not the generic, or one of the other over the counter medications for heartbutn. I have in the past used the natural acid reliever that they sell at the health food store and it did work well. I am seeing a gastronologist on Friday that uses supplements to treat his patients. I'll give you the heads up on what he says.
In the meantime have you read Dr Hyman's blog on heartburn, it could be under GERD, he gives several suggestions on how to manage it. One thing he suggest is DGL, licorice root, and it has helped me in the past too. Ask the sales person at the store which they recommend, because the new bottle I bought taste so bad I can't chew them, but it does work.
You may be sensitry one of the other versions to see if t want to try one of the other versions to see if this helps. ie if you used rice protein try version 3 without the rice protein.
Which shake did you try?

What a pain! Maybe you're sensitive to something in the shake. Do other things give you heartburn?
