Hi, I am just starting thsi program and I am vegan.  Does anyone know what the rules are for substituting animal products in the meals?  I am sure I can use Boca Burgers for the meat products but I am not sure about chicken and fish.  I am hoping to lose 15 pounds...

 

Also, are there any vegan recipes?

As you know there are only a few substitutes for meat protein. You have to be creative with beans, nuts and soy products. Quinoa is a grain that is also a complete protein, although it is not allowed on the USD plan during the first week, you could add it during week two.

I would be hesitant to use the soy "meat products", since they may be considered "frankenfoods". If you can't read the ingredients list without a dictionary, it is a good bet that it is not an allowed food. Other considerations would be to check that it is gluten free and organic.

This diet should actually work well for you if you just get a little creative with your meat substitutions. Good luck.
