Day Seven

Today is day seven of the USD plan. Today is Valentine's Day and I am sure DH will want to go out. I am prepared, so I will suggest a local Japanese eatery. I think it would be safest, except for the 'white' rice that they serve. Lots of fresh vegetables and I can stick with chicken today. Actually, I am going to suggest tomorrow, I would like to make sure that I get through this week, unhindered, so to speak.
How have I been doing? Great. But I got rid of most of the caffeine a couple of months ago. We were already using 50/50. It was tearing up my stomach, even though I only had one mug on Saturday and one on Sunday. Rarely did I have any on weekdays, where I tend to have decaf or herbal teas.
I have also been on rotation diets in the past for one of our children that was allergic to a lot of foods (including soy and rice). We found out pretty quickly what we ALL had issues with. Even so, I plan to be gluten free for a while just to help cleanse the system.
I lost weight getting ready (4 lbs.) and I lost weight at the beginning. I did not have nut butters, but I did have nuts. I tried that on day one, but did not like the taste, so I did not add anything to my shakes. I did use almond milk. When I added nut butters, Tuesday, the weight started to climb (just a bit). I should have known better. I am in stage 2 of NASH and I know to avoid certain oils, nut being one of them.
I am going to go for week 2. I know that I need to do so. I will try cutting back on the nut oils and see if that makes a difference. I will post final weight loss after tomorrow. I will also remeasure. I know I have lost inches, even if not weight, because my pants are looser.
I loved the silky baths. They were great!
Blessings

Day Seven Too

Hi GardenGal,
Congrats on the progress, keep it going! What is NASH?
I'm on day seven as well and refuse to let Valentine's Day derail me. Hubby and I decided to celebrate next Sat. because it's easier to get a sitter and less crowded. The kids want to make heart shaped cupcakes but I have to either make healthy ones and eat one tomorrow (because of the eggs) or give them all away after having fun making them with them. One of my goals was/is to be able to have junk food around me without having to eat it, to not want it at all.
I haven't stepped on a scale yet, waiting till tomorrow. I don't feel like my clothes are looser, just a bit lighter maybe, less bloated. However, I had pretty bad anxiety and irritability yesterday. I have not had a drop of sugar or gluten, stuck pretty well to the program, other than a bit of venison on Wednesday. (??) Oh well, I'm going to stick to the program, maybe I need a bit longer.
Nuturenut, Keep up the good

Nuturenut,
Keep up the good work. I can not imagine that venison would be an issue, since it is raised in the field. I think it was listed as one of the first things you can add back in.
NASH is also called 'fatty liver'. It is a form of hepetitis caused by being overwieight. There are a lot of references to it in Dr. Hyman's book. I am sure I am very insulin resistant, which is why I have a hard time losing weight, even on a cleanse.
Final weight loss for me was 5 1.2 lbs (4#s was with the preparation week) I lost 1 inch in my waist, but no where else. Health score went from 58 to a 31. That is good, but could be better.
DH and I agreed, since he is not feeling well, to wait until next week to go out. That gives me another week to see if it makes any more difference.
Last week, I would not eat pizza with them on Saturday night (we make our own whole wheat crust pizza). The smell drove me crazy, but I resisted. Today, they had their normal egg and bacon (turkey) breakfast with toast and it did not even bother me. That is a big improvement.
I will be anxious to see how you did with your cupcakes. I have refused to buy the kids junk food. I am buying lots of fresh vegies and fruit so they can have that. They have not made any cookies, so they must be content.
Blessings

Well, I didn't make the cupcakes...but I made the mistake of visiting the half off Valentine section at Target. I intended to give the treats to my nieces...but a small "taste" turned into an all out chocolate binge, ugh. I've been on the 'chocolate drug' ever since, even cheated with gluten and McDonalds. It's my hormonal week and I feel that had I stuck to the USD longer maybe I wouldn't have failed. I think the lack of a plan and regular meals like I was doing led to cravings and 'quick fix' junk food. So, here we go again. I'm thinking as I write this that so far today it's still early enough and it's Sunday and all I've had was a shake and vitamins so maybe I can re-start today! I think I will :) The only problem I had on the USD week was I ended up with horrible canker sores and wonder if it was the lemons, so I'll have to go easy on them and see.
How are you doing???
Keep trying

Naturenut,
Don't give up. A half a lemon gives me problems, but I can usually handle a quarter.
It takes discipline and planning, which is why I did not start until I knew I was ready. I think we need more menues. Unless you read the companion guide to the book, you would not know that raw vegetables would be ok to eat. That means that salads should be ok, yet they are not on the meal plan. Raw vegies and hummus got me through a lot of rough times. I also kept a container of raw nuts in the vehicle to nibble on if 'shopping' became a distractor or ran later than planned. That kept the temptation down.
Total weight loss - 10 lbs.
I bought chocolate at the 1/2 price aisle, too. I did not have any, but it was sure tempting. I made a shake to satify the 'sweet' craving and was satisfied. If you fall off the wagon, get up and try again. You can do this.
Remember, you are doing this for your kids, not just yourself. They deserve a long life with their mom!
Blessings

I feel like an alcoholic or cigarette smoker who knows my bad habits are killing me yet can't stop. I'm starting to really lose hope with myself ever changing for good. I've been so stressed with my teen son and 2 toddlers and all I do is run to the cookies and chocolate/sugar. It's like self-sabotage behavior I can't seem to control. I know all the right things to do but can't seem to stick to them. Maybe I need to look for counseling to clear the roadblock since I can't seem to. Sorry, just feeling quite helpless at the moment. Darn Girl Scout cookies, lol.
choose healthier

If your going to eat sugar, eat the real stuff. Girl Scout cookies are loaded with trans fat and high fructose corn syrup, one of the worst things, if not "the" worst thing you could put in your body, HFCS does not break down in the liver as glucose and goes straight to fat. If you want a cookie choose one with natural cane sugar instead. I'm not advocating ingesting sugar, but like an addiction, if you have to have something sweet, choose the real stuff or stevia or even Lakanto, which is actually good for the body but can be quite expensive.
