De-tox symptoms, anyone?

I'm taking it as a good sign, since Dr. H says there might be symptoms the first few days, but yesterday I felt as if I had the flu. Some of the muscle aches might have been from yoga, but I not all of them. Also headaches, which I hardly ever get, and nausea the first night.

However, today is Day 3, so I'm hoping that tomorrow, things will be better. And I highly recommend the naps, which helped yesterday.

My health score is 63, so I didn't expect to feel really bad. Anyone else?

I was also pretty sick, couldn't get out of bed for a few days, headache, nausea, just kind of icky.

I stayed home from work on Day 3...first sick day in 5 years.  I was fighting a cold anyway then discovered the magnesium was too much for my bowels to tolerate.  I called in to work and spent the day napping and felt much better after that.

I am interested in when your symptoms subside. The afternoon of the 2nd day, I began violently itching with blisters developing on my wrists--like a food reaction. I wasn't really expecting this, since I eat pretty clean, but I assumed it would go away if I stuck with the program. It is now the beginning of the 4th day for me and no relief. I am beginning to be afraid that I am sensitive to something in the supplements. I don't know how long to persevere.

Hi. I had been on the UltraMetabolism diet for 2 months prior to starting the U.S. diet so didn't have any negative symptoms except I had itching all over my body on the 2nd day. For me, each successive day got less and less. I did the U.S. diet a week early and am continuing it still. Near the end of the first week , I had 2 days where only the bottoms of my feet itched for a partial day. Of course I can only speak for myself, but Dr. did say itching may be a symptom, and my skin has always been sensitive to chemicals and scents. Hope things improve for you soon.

I am on day 3 today and

I am on day 3 today and developed a bad headache yesterday afternoon that is still hanging around. Also, this morning for a bit, I felt really nauseated, but that seems to have passed.

Honestly, my score was a 91 so I expected to feel much worse.  I have not really had the achy feeling at all.  And since I have headaches a lot anyway (one reason I'm doing this plan!), I wasn't sure whether to attribute it to this plan or not.  But the fact that it won't go away makes me think maybe it is.  Hopefully after today it will get better.

By the way - are we supposed to be avoiding medicines like ibuprofen also?  I would guess that we are, but I will tell you, my headache got so bad yesterday (and since I couldn't find anything about it in the book), I took a couple.  It did make the pain subside, but it never really went away.

It's so nice to be part of a group who is going through the same thing at the same time as me.  Thanks for all your support!

Feeling backed up :(

Hi everyone, I have had some symptoms as well.  I did feel a slight headache the first day and some fatigue. Then I was slightly sore in my knees and that has now subsided.  It is also day 3 for me, but my problem is is I am now feeling all backed up!!  I am drinking my water, my broths and taking the herbal laxative and I am not even going as normal as I was going BEFORE this plan Embarassed.  I am taking all my supplements, but I am not sure what to do at this point - I am a bit frustrated.

I hope as time goes on that this improves.

Nonetheless, I am looking forward to hearing how all of you have done :)

serenity76 - you might try

serenity76 - you might try an herbal laxative TEA instead of capsules.  I've found that works way better for me than the pills do.  Actually, it can cause soft stools and going several times within a few hours, but will definitely help the "cleaning out" process!

Seems I saw that we aren't supposed to list brand names on here (?), but if you look in the "healthy food" section of any grocery, you will probably find it.  If you want to know what brand I used, send me a private message and I'll let you know!

Hope this helps!

I will pop buy my local drug store and buy some of that tea instead.  Thank you so much for that suggestion.  i think what is happening in my situation, is that maybe gunk that has been there for so long is actually clearing out that it caused me to back up a bit.  Thanks so much.  I am not experienced with laxatives, as I normally don't have this problem, but then again I ate more grains.

I will take you suggestion :)

Are you eating Soy?  I'm just curious because when I did the Ultrametabolism program several months ago I started eating more soy and I came to the conclusion that soy makes me very constipated.  I guess if you were eating soy before as well that narrows that out, but just a thought.

go to the drug store and get the magnesium citrate liquid - it comes in a glass bottle.  it is often given to prep patients prior to a colonoscopy and it works pretty fast.  good luck.

I have done a few detox programs and each time I had headaches and felt real "yucky".  I too am on my 3rd day and Monday morning at 4:30, I woke up with a headache.  Because I had to go to work, I took 2 ibuprofen (I really don't like taking anything un-natural but had no choice) and tried to go back to sleep.  Finally got up around 6am and was only 5 min. late for work.  The head was hurting and my head was foggy.  It wasn't until 10am when the head stopped hurting but I felt very lethargic and achy.  Really could of used a nap.  I had my broth at 10am and ate lunch.  I did all I was suppose to do and by 6pm I was feeling better.  Actually had energy.  Today, I'm feeling great but it's 1:30pm and I'm noticing that I could use that nap right about now.  Overall, this has been more enjoyable than I expected.  My husband loves the meat recipes from the guide and I'm very happy about the rest.  This has been a very positive change.  I also love reading what others have to say.

Detox Symptoms

Not yet begun the UltraSimple Diet Not yet begun the UltraSimple Diet

Headache, muscle aches, flu-like symptoms, skin changes (itching, rashes, break-outs), mood changes, etc. may occur during the initial stages of a detox program as your body is working hard to remove toxins and adapt to the changes in diet that provides new information to biochemical pathways.

Symptoms vary with each individual which is certainly reflective of our "biochemical individuality" including genetic differences in detox ability, body fat % differences (fat is a storage depot for toxins and some of us have more than others which may influence detox symptoms),nutritional status prior to detoxification, etc.

It is important to allow time for adequate rest during this period as sleep is essential to the restoration process.  In addition, the support you will find in this community will be helpful during this time.

Getting rid of headaches

Not yet begun the UltraSimple Diet Not yet begun the UltraSimple Diet

I'm back, sort of replying to my own post, but lots of people were talking about headaches, and I know someting totally substance-free that helps.

It may take some practice if you've never done this before, but visualization is very powerful. I lie on my back with my eyes closed. You can be on a comfortable bed, or on the floor, whichever you prefer.

First, you concentrate on your breathing. All breathing should happen with the stomach. If your pants are too tight, undo them. Actually, if they're too tight to breathe this way, don't wear them. Focus on breathing into your stomach. It fills up your lungs much more, and with less effort than the shallow upper-chest breathing. Eventually, try to watch your breath without controlling it. This is harder than it sounds.

When you've got that going on, start to feel yourself relax on every out breath. Then, start at your toes and imagine all the stress leaving your body, one part at a time. Make pictures in your head for this. You might imagine the stress falling through your back and getting soaked up by the earth. The stress can look black and spiky or start out neon and get pastel as you relax -- whatever works for you. If one image isn't working, try another. When you get good at this, the images will come of their own accord, and they'll work.

When you work your way up to your neck, be sure to go ALL THE WAY AROUND your neck. There are muscles in the front and on the sides that get really tense. There are also muscles that go up into the base of the skull. And, of course, blood vessels all in your brain. Imagine these relaxing. Different images have worked for me. I've imagined a vise being loosened, frothy bubbles that represent relaxation growing in the muscles, and my in-breaths causing my blood vessels to expand. I can actually feel the pain slip away when I do this!

At first, you might be able to make the pain go away while you concentrate, but the headache comes back when you have to focus on, say, driving. But after a while, the effect lasts longer.

I know it doesn't sound like much, but I used to have 3-10 migraines a month, and learned to stop them this way. Now, I rarely get headaches at all, let alone migraines. Other kinds of visualization also helped me beat depression. I've been off anti-depressants for 10 months now; I had been on them for ten years! This is VERY powerful!

Stephanie I'm with you :) .

Stephanie I'm with you :) . I love to use the power of visualization to help ease up my tension, and as a matter of fact, my situation of being "backed up" cleared upon taking one dose of the tea and then simply reclining on my bed and simply just focusing on my breath and simply releasing tensions.  Before I knew it, 1 hr flew by and as soon as I got up..... I had to go :)  LOL

I also find if I use the same visualization technique when doing yoga, and because of this I find I can relax into poses and keep correct form. It is VERY powerful. Great idea to bring up this technique!!

What the nutritionist said was right on point because I haven't really felt any symptoms of the detox other than being extremely tired and feeling really week (w/ depression).  Makes sense especially since I haven't been able to take naps and this has been a busy week at work...I nearly fell asleep at my desk after lunch!

Thanks for your comforting advice/help Kathie!

I started a post about the terrible face rash that I broke out into by the evening of day 4... but it ended up in a totally different section of the website.  I dont' want to re-post it here... but let's just say that i assume it was because of the unusually high dose of magnesium, in addition to my multi vit/min.  It covered 80% of my face and lasted 6 days.  (... and I've never had skin problems like this in my entire life)  It didn't start to go away until I stopped the excess magnesium.

Stephanie,

I have been on this diet starting on my 4th day. Yesterday was difficult as I was aching in my knees and lower back. I thought it was the yoga but now believe it was detoxing, today I feel much better. Still have some sinus issues and my energy and alertness is amazing. I had a small headache this am. I am drinking my shake which is helping. I agree the naps really help with restoring your balance. My health score was 137 and I thought I was fairly active by biking and eating local. Much to my surprise, this has been eye opening to what state my health was becoming from bad information and fad diets.

I plan to continue and start the UltraMetabolism lifestyle next. Stay strong and good luck.

UltraBath and wow, I'm feeling it now...

Currently beginning UltraMetabolism Currently doing UltraMetabolism

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

I'm on day one, and I felt good all day. Began some of the diet last week during prep. This afternoon though, I went to take the UltraBath...since my boyfriend and I are both doing the diet and I work from home, I'm taking the bath in the afternoon, so he can take it tonight (and have enough hot water).

Wow! Once I got into bed and began sweating, I could not believe how tired I was. I stayed in the towels for 20 minutes, then put on a t-shirt and sweats and still was sweating for some time. I fell asleep and now I feel totally out of it. Deeply tired, achy, and kind of depressed. My score was 57, which is moderate, but I have felt for some time now that I was really exhausted from months of stress, which even though it has subsided, I am still feeling the effects of.

I suspect my need to heal is deep, and my body wants to just take care of itself without distraction or interruption. Interesting...Wonder how the rest of the week will be?

I have been totally exhausted, despite the naps; I've been irritable and crabby.  I have stiff neck and have had headaches, as well as a couple migraines.  My stomach is TOTALLY bloated and hard, but I am not constipated--I have 2-3 BMs a day.  I have no energy at work and have become very apathetic.  This is my 2nd week and I feel like things are getting worse.

I've been reading about how wonderful everyone feels once they start this.  Even Dr. Hyman says that you should feel better after the 3rd or 4th day.  I was almost ready to give up, but I'm glad to know I am not the only one feeling awful.
