Hey all,

I started the UM program in earnest 1/19/08.  Made the mistake of not doing the prep week other than limiting my portions.  Days2-7 were killers.  Finished the detox in time for the superbowl and took the day off.  Thus far I am down 18 official pounds but probably more as I didn't weigh myself immediately following a holiday cruise.  At any rate, I have been losing and had a plateau for a couple days and pwered through it.  I am in the process of evaluating different supplements to add to my regimen and was wondering what other people are adding, that is beyond a good multi and mineral supplement.

Not sure if you know about it but there is an Ultra Simple Diet guide you can download from the website that has very detailed info on the subject. Also, I received an automated email from Dr. Mark Hyman about supplements you can purchase on the site and here's an excerpt:

I bought the essential supplement package when I ordered the prepared meals.   You can call them and probably get them.   As an alternative,  I found organicpharmacy.org online which sells the same Metagenics supplements.  Metagenics seem to be high quality.

"D3 1000", "Cal Apatite with Magnesium", "Multigenics without Iron" - multivitamin, "EPA-DHA Extra strength", and "LactoFlamX" -probiotic

Search for Metagenics, then the specific items.

I've  been taking them for about 10 weeks now.

Hey There,

If you don't mind, I have questions about your experience:

1. Was there a cost saving buying the supplements through "Organic Pharmacy"?

2. Now that you've been taking supplements for 10 weeks, do you notice a big difference from when you weren't taking these supplements?

3. How were the prepared meals?

4. Are you still doing the Ultra Simple Diet?

I've been on the USD for 6 days now and am contemplating extending it to 3 weeks.

The cost with organic pharmacy was about the same, but I could also pick and choose other items.

I am sure the supplements have helped, but it is hard to distinguish that from the overall program.   I'm sure I was D deficient, and the multi seems much better than the Trader Joe one I was using previously.   Also the EPA-DHA fish oil along with the flax seed I have been injesting has been a big benefit.   I expect very good lab results next month.  Anyone who has digestion problems or gas should try the "LactoFlamX" -probiotic for 1 to 3 months.

 The prepared meals were great, but I have gotten tired of some of the food.   One of the great things about getting the meals was to see the portion sizes, along with having a period where I didn't have to shop or cook.  I am now cooking more and more.   I was on USD probably for 5 - 6 weeks, and now would consider myself on UM phase 2.   I seem to be in the 1 to 2 lb a week loss period that the UM book mentions.  It has become more a way of eating and understanding food than a diet.
