Doing the UltraSimple Diet
I tried something new tonight: a produce prep time. First, I scrubbed the kitchen sinks, then I scrubbed and washed all of the new refrigerated fresh produce(both fruits and vegetables) in aVeggie Wash solution, rinsed all of it with filtered water, and finally, I bagged all of the clean produce into clean plastic bags, some of which are "vegetable" bags with air holes, that I bought years ago and have seldom used. This way, when it is time to cook or eat, it won't take very long to prepare food for cooking. Since the equipment is already out of the cabinets, it's easier to get the prep over with for maybe a week at a time. I didn't seem to be able to do this during USD prep week, but it would certainly have helped if I had done this. It took awhile to clean all of this produce, but I will really enjoy having it later this week.
For this process, I use several colanders, and several large bowls, preferably those made from glass or stainless steel. Last week, I bought a somewhat inexpensive stainless steel colander, with a larger capacity than what I already had, and that speeds up the process considerably. Since I was having a possible reaction to the Veggie Wash earlier, I have started to rinse the clean produce 2 times using filtered water in the sink, covering the produce with water each time, and swishing it around. Since I have been doing that, I have had no more difficulties.

You do not want to cover

You do not want to cover produce with water in the sink, particulary if you are just uysing water. If there is bacteria on any of the produce then all you have done is spread it around; since you are only using water you have done nothing to eliminate the bacteria but have just made the problem worse. You want to rince produce individually under running water. Water eliminates very little bacteria so if you are having problems with the veggie wash then make a vinegar solution (I can't remember what part vinegar to what part water but you can Google that) as that will kill I think it is close to 90% of the bacteria.
