I have been hypothyroid for 20 years. It is very frustrating to follow programs and not get results, at least not as successfully as others. I'm looking for encouragers who also have low thyroid function who are using the program. It would really help me to know how others who are in the same boat are progressing. Anyone there?

I am on day 2 of the USD, so far feel fatigued and headachy. Are you on medication? I have not discontinued my thyroid meds. I read recently that those of us with thyroid problems should not eat tofu (soy connection). Have you heard that, anyone?

glad to hear from other hypothyroid folk!

I started the program last Friday. I'm not suffering fatigue anymore than usual.

Regarding soy, yes I read that it can adversely affect thyroid function. Fortunately for me, I'm allergic to it, so I have avoided it anyway. There are also indications that women should only have a small amount per day because of the estrogen mimic can cause feminine issues.

I am on armour thyroid, which Dr. Hyman discusses in his book. I have no intention of changing medication.

The biggest change I've made are not eating after 7 pm which is tough for me. I'm a grazer. The first night was hard, but after that I've done better. I started taking 2 capsules of valerian root and drinking sleepytime tea.

I've also cut back on refined sugar and am trying gluten free. Dr. Hyman suggested gluten is a common problem related to thyroid function. I've never noticed any particular problem, but thought I'd try the 3 week self test. I came up with a really good gluten free, dairy free bread machine recipe if anyone wants it. the only recipes I could find had milk. my husband is lactose intolerant so I came up with an alternative.

It's great to have some others who identify with the special challenges we face!
