How long on detox

Generally speaking, how long have most of you been on detox? Do you stay on detox until you've lost the weight you want to and then move on or just a certain amount of time?

2-3 weeks

I stayed on detox until I felt like I was going to fall off the wagon completely if I didn't get a treat. I think it was somewhere in week 2 or the beginning of week 3. I have a lot of weight to lose so I couldn't use that to determine when to quit.
Thanks...

Thanks for writing back. I too have a lot of weight to lose. After you moved away from detox, did you go back? I was just wondering if alternating from phase 2 back to detox periodically would be helpful.

As I read the UMD guidelines, the detox phase was designed to last a total of 3 weeks, after the preparation week. I'm finishing my 2nd week of detox phase and I can't imagine wanting to do this any longer than necessary. After the detox period when you know that your body has been flushed clear of foods you could be potentially allergic to or sensitive to, then you begin to slowly add them back one by one and withdraw them again only if your body reacts with signs of irritation or allergy. In the final maintenance phase, you continue with healthy eating habits but a wider range of food options such as dairy, gluten, eggs, peanuts, alcohol, etc. if your body can tolerate them. According to Dr. Hyman, if you continue to follow the basic principles, you would still continue to lose weight.
Hopefully this helps.

It definitely makes sense...however, with a lot of weight to lose and the fact that I've lost 12lbs so far, it's hard to want to add anything back for fear of gaining or stopping the loss. I really want to continue to lose and have now found a way to do that. I know it's all in my head. Is "detox" not healthy as a lifestyle diet?

Going off detox for me was mostly about removing things - like the broth - that I hated. Did that around week 3 or 4. The rest of the restrictions are fine and I slowly added a bit of some things back in (tiny bit of dairy and dark chocolate). I fell of the wagon once and put myself back on detox but I have been ok since. I have a LOT of weight to lose so I am trying to tow the line as long as I can.

Thanks for responding. I have a lot of weight to lose too so I'm just trying to figure out the right way to stay on this and continue losing for a long time. I'm down almost 15lbs and continue to lose. This week is my first week cooking myself and I thought that might ruin the loss but I've been doing well. When you fell off the wagon, were there any issues? I forsee being sick if I cheat...I'm planning to have a small filet on Valentine's Day (1 week Prep, 2 weeks Detox) and I'm hoping I won't get sick. What do you think?
